Rebuke - to sharply critize
Apostle - someone with strong religious faith that goes out to preach or spread gospel
Absolve - to set someone free of or forgive them of guilt or a sin
Proselytize - to convince someone to join or convert to a religion, instituion, cause etc.
Evangelize - to preach gospel (to someone) or convert to Christianity
Veda - from the Sanskrit word “veda” meaning knowledge, it refers to any of the 4 sacred Hindu texts.
Rigveda - with “rig” meaning praise, it is the oldest of the Vedas and is divided into the Samhita (main text), Brahmanas, Aranyakas and Upanishads with books 2-9 conerning the prasise and rituals of dieties and 1 and 10 about philosophical questions.
Yajurveda - with “Yajur” meaning worship, gives ritual-offering forumlas that were to be siad beofre ritual actions and is divded into Krishna (black, dark, untidy) and Shukla (white, bright, organized)
Samaveda - with “Sama” meaning song and setting the foundation for Indian music, all but 75 texts have been taken from the Rigveda and holds the Chandogya and Kena Upanisha which are influential on the six schools of Hindu philosophy
Atharvaveda - with “Atharva” from “Artharvanas”, about 1/6th comes from the Rigveda and is said to represent ‘popular relgion’ as it has formulas for magic, daily rituals, marriage etc.
